ABOUT US
The Freedom Centre was opened in October 1989 by the Isle of Sheppey Spastic Group, latterly known as Delta Group, with the help of Scope and Social Services. The aim of the Freedom Centre is to provide initiatives for self-development and personal growth through a wide range of Day Care activities for people with physical disabilities. Courses are designed to stimulate the physical, intellectual, emotional and creative needs of attending clients/members and encompass social skills, vocational training and self advocacy including a wide range of therapeutic and leisure pursuits. The main objectives of the Centre are:
THE TRUSTEES The Freedom Centre Trustees are legally and financially responsible for controlling the management and administration of the charity, ‘The Freedom Centre, working with people with disabilities’. All Trustees work on a voluntary basis and together form the Executive Committee with a sub-committee known as the Staffing Committee. Members (physically disabled adults who attend the Centre) elect two of their colleagues to represent them on the Executive Committee who are duly elected as Trustees. All Trustees are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting of The Freedom Centre. The Executive Committee appoints staff to form their management team, which is responsible for the day to day running of the Centre, and to implement the policies laid down by the Executive Committee.
